I. In response to Eion’s question about Sarah Good and Tituba being kept alive, those who confessed were not hanged. If you confessed to being a witch they considered that to be you breaking the bond with the devil and coming back to God. Therefore, they had no reason to hang them. However, they couldn’t let their actions go unpunished so they would keep them in prison. And in response to Danny’s question, they have most likely lost their minds due to the entire situation that they have been put in. While imprisoned the mind has been known to have a break with reality and conjure up these notions that, for example, the devil will come with wings to take you out of prison.
A. In the first scene of act 4 we see that Sarah Good and Tituba have basically lost their minds. They have come to believe that the devil will bring them wings so they can fly to Barbados. I feel as though this touches on the topic of how solitary confinement can be considered cruel. Although they were together they have had limited human interaction and in solitary you are kept in a small room and have you meals given to you through an opening in the door. Many have been known to go insane after spending too much time there.
E. I really like how Hale has truly come to terms with the actions that he has done and that he has caused the deaths of so many innocents. It is good to see that he realizes his actions and snaps on Danforth because he has done the same.

A “there be so many cows wandering the highroads, now their masters are in jail, and much disagreement who they will belong to now.” This quote shows that they are actually losing money and profit in the town because they were taking away all the farms and in that era the farmers were the main source of economy. Also shows that some people were getting killed just for their farms and resources. Final point is that this is taking away from their villages its mostly going to be the death of there civilization.
E. Finally some one is worried about the well being of this town they have killed off some many innocent women, children, and men that Paris is fearful of an uprising. SOMEONE USES THERE FLIPPING BRAIN FINALLY!!!! You can only kill so many innocent people before other people start to get ticked off. Like hey u killed my neighbor and he helped tend to my crop now half of my crop is going to waste. So much love for Paris at the minute.
G. If I was inside Danforths head I would give them till night fall to do the hangings because hale needs more time to sit down and talk to these people. Pray with them and help them find god. It is impossible to have them do that with such little time. Also it could lessen the fear of the riots because the people know that they tried to help it wasn’t straight to the ropes for them.

Gregory Poulon Mr. Thomas English-11 10 October 2013
“Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!” This quote said by the Proctor, expresses how the Proctor is feeling mentally, while he is deciding whether or not to admit to the witchcraft crime. He didn’t want to dishonor everyone else in prison and of course this shows his over obsession with his name. Reputation played a major role for the Proctor throughout the play, but at the end, he finally understood the meaning of a good reputation. He understood that he had to say the truth and to never lie for your best interest.
Reverend John Hale: John Hale was a minister who was an expert on witchcraft. Overall, Hale is a Christian so therefore hates witchcraft. To prevent himself from blind fervor, he used his critical mind and vast intelligence. Even though he always attempted to help others and to save people’s lives, he later on began to regret.
Act 4, which is the final act and also the epilogue, reveals many interesting concepts. Danforth and Hathorne begin to become very insecure because they signed the death warrants. They are trying to get Proctor to admit to signing the warrant, and to admit his position as a witch. The Proctor finally understands the true meaning of a good reputation and how if he wants to keep it he needs to speak the truth.
